The three major areas of police powers are:

  • questioning of suspects
  • search and seizure of property
  • arrest.

These powers are primarily found in the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 (Qld) and the Police Powers and Responsibilities Regulation 2012 (Qld). Additional specific police powers are outlined in other chapters (e.g. police ‘move on’ powers are dealt with in Street Offences, and powers attending to breath and blood testing for driving offences are dealt with in Traffic Offences).
