The law, systems and processes relating to education in Queensland are mainly governed by the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 (Qld) (Education Act), Education (General Provisions) Regulation 2006 (Qld) and the Policy and Procedure Register published by the Queensland Department of Education and Training (DET).

The Education Act gives the chief executive of DET a range of powers and responsibilities. These powers will not usually be exercised directly by the chief executive but are delegated to officers within DET with appropriate experience and seniority.
