Penny Williams has been at Legal Aid Queensland for 25 years, mostly practising in criminal law after an early stint in family law.
Prior to Legal Aid, Penny was working for a community law centre in Hamilton New Zealand for five years.
She is passionate about social justice and helping vulnerable or disadvantaged Queenslanders.
Penny currently manages a team of lawyers at Legal Aid and enjoys this mentoring role. She has an interest in drug and alcohol court and therapeutic jurisprudence and has been involved in drug courts in Queensland since they commenced back in 2001.
As well as volunteering at Caxton Community Legal Centre, she is on the Board of Zonta Brisbane River, advocating against violence towards women and girls.
